I don’t know what to tell you guys. Nothing really crazy happened this january and february.
So let’s talk about the boring and usual life of lambda human being in Georgia.
The return to the Scout center was hard. After the 15 days vacation, giving up the car and the freedom that I once experienced was a thought moment. But I wasn't in Georgia to have fun (or at least not just that). So I had to get back to work. My work mainly consist of giving classes. During those two months, I must have give more than 20 classes of English. To kids, teenagers, and adults. The experience is obviously extremely different depending on who attend the classes.
I always enjoy and have a lot of fun teaching the kids of YETS. The Zoom format makes it easier to handle a class, and pushes you to find new ways of making a class enjoyable and interactive. My class has been growing since I began and my lesson have been improving. The atmosphere is more and more warm and safe for the kids to express themselves and participate in the class.
Now, are physical classes boring or annoying ? Not really, but it’s a whole different challenge. Most of the kids I have the opportunity to teach too are… Full of energy (and that’s an understatement). Most of the time, you come out of the class exhausted (another understatement). They do not listen all the time, so you have to find a really thin equilibrium between fun/relax and severe/hard, to actually make them listen and make them respect you. Because believe me, there’s nothing more close to a nightmare, to hell even then giving a class to kids that have no respect for your authority.
Authority … excellent word to tell you guys what I have been up too. I enrolled in an online class on Political Science. So let me teach you guys something (so pedantic (IK) BODISHI).
Max Weber defined it grosso modo like this : It is the varying degrees of ability one has to exercise one’s will over others. Following, if it’s an institution or an individual that use this power, it can become domination and/or authority. SO authority is the good power. The form of domination that you do not question in your everyday life. For example, a policeman pulling you over. You're probably going to stop because he is the legitimate representant of the state, so he is wielding a legitimate form of power. If he caught you speeding or breaking the law you’ll probably accept the fine or the punishment because it seems right. Now if the same policeman steals your money or kidnap you won’t feel the same.
Ok, class is finished, it was weird, let’s get to something else.
The other volunteers and I did a little trip of 2 days that was pretty nice. I will finish my blog with this
little story. First the whole plan was made in a few hours from the destination to the duration, to renting the cars. We rented a charming GMC Terrain (was really cool) and we went on Saturday to the frozen lakes near Tsalka. It was impressive ? Everything was covered in snow, and we had the chance to drive the car in a little road that was cleared before to get in the middle of the lake and walk on it. We walked for maybe 1 hour in 1 meter deep snow. It was, kind of nightmare, but overall it’s an interesting experience to have. But once we arrived to the car, we faced a little problem. WE COULDN'T TURN THE CAR TO GET BACK TO THE ROAD. I mean we tried, first right !! :) and we got the car stuck in the snow. It’s only after suffering in the cold and the help of a kind stranger that we could actually push the car out of its situation, and I then had to break my neck driving in reverse in a narrow road to reach the main one. Once again an exciting experience. We then ate khinkali and megruli khachapuri in a nice restaurant in Tsalka.
We literally were sinking into the ground out of exhaustion. But we managed to hit back the road to our next destination …. Kojori
